“I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can’t produce a thing. Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire. But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon. God gave Cheryl and I a wonderful opportunity to shepherd Disciplemaking Interns this summer. Our theme verse challenged us to abide in Christ. We spent lots of time metitating on the concept of abiding, staying, dwelling, etc. We agreed to ask the question, “Can I abide when…?” This includes everything that happens, both good and bad. Yes, we can abide in any and every situation, and God helps us through whatever situation we are in when we abide.
“I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” — Phil. 4:11-13
