His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior; the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. -- Psalm 147:10-11 It is all too easy to fall into the temptation of putting great value on our own strength, our physical strength, financial strength, relationship strength, or the strength of our earthly possessions. We find comfort and pride in these things. We put our trust and our hope in them because they make us feel secure. Is God impressed with these things? Is our strength what pleases Him? The Bible tells us that these things are NOT what the Lord delights in. If we are putting our hope in these things, then we are not living according to God's Word. Worldly strength is temporary, here one day and gone the next. Depending on these things is worthless for us and will not lead us toward glorifying dependance on God. "The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love." What are we daily putting our hope in? Are we humbly demonstrating fear and reverence for God in our lives? Or are we pridefully depending on our own strength, forgetting who is sovereign over everything. If we desire to please God, we must put our hope in Him and His unfailing love. May we all practice the fear of the Lord in a healthy, awesome respect and practice putting our hope in Him.
