The recent flooding across Kansas that is covering many roads, paved and dirt alike, reminded me of a verse from Jeremiah:
Thus says the LORD: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.
Jeremiah 6:16
I had the chance to speak at a graduation event last week as the keynote speaker. Both preparing and delivering that speech was a good reminder in the importance of seeking the wisdom of God when faced with a crossroads. For those graduates, and their parents, many tough desicions await. But the weight of our choices should not discourage us from making them.
The Lord first tells us to stand. Stand by the roads, ready for action, ready to walk in the good way. Our readiness is the first step in facing life-changing choices. However, contrary to secular thought, our readiness has much less to do with our abilities, and much more to do with our reliance.
So, in the face of tough decisions, stand ready and reliant on the wisdom and grace of the Father, asking and looking for the ancient, good paths, that you might walk in them.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:2
