Slippery Slopes

In the world of hiking, trekking poles are used to aid in keeping our feet sure on an unsteady path and prevent us from sliding down a steep mountainside. Much like the terrain of a mountain, there are many areas or slippery slopes in our spiritual lives that can cause us to stumble and slide.

People pleasing is an area that many of us are tempted with. However, Paul explains in in Galatians 1:10 that if we are living to please people, then we are not living as a servant of Christ. Other slippery slopes are seeking to satisfy our own desires in our own strength or finding our identity in always being the best. Whichever area we tend to struggle with, they all have this in common. They all take our eyes off of Jesus.

The challenge in the midst of the slippery slopes we face is to use our spiritual trekking poles. We must stand firm on the truth of God's Word and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit.

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.   Isaiah 40:8

Without these spiritual trekking poles, the world and our sinful desires will cause us to fall. They are confusing and ever changing. Without TRUTH, we are easily distracted and sabataged into believing lies. We will start believing that God is not enough.

In the midst of this world and its slippery slopes, be encouraged to BE STILL and know that God is God. Let us seek to know Truth and allow it to set us free from lies. Let us rest in the Truth that Jesus is enough.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;      I will be exalted among the nations,     I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us;     the God of Jacob is our fortress.  Psalm 46:10

Join me using the trekking poles of God's Word and the Holy Spirit to help us on the slippery slopes of life.
