Have you ever felt like a bunch of jelly fish just stung you, overwhelming your body to the point of just feeling frozen or numb?
This is something I struggled with after my Dad passed away. This feeling of numbness easily results in not wanting to be encouraged or have desires of any kind.
As hard as it is, what I decided to do through this time was simply to act my way to feeling. Another way to say it is to just do the next right thing. We can know in our head what needs done or what we should do, but not follow through because we don't FEEL like it. However, our feelings do not always reflect what is true or what is right. We would often be in trouble if we waited for the right feelings in order to act.
...for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
- 2 Timothy 1:7
In those moments, we can focus on accomplishing the the things we know we should. We can read our Bible, get appropriate hydration, go for a walk and meditate on the truth of God's Word. We can remind ourselves of Truth even when we our feelings are disoriented.
It's not easy. It can be really difficult. But with God's help we can get through this. Pray for me to do the next right thing, acting my way to feeling, and trusting in the goodness and faithfulness of God.
